Smart Ostrich has developed a mobile app and mobile platform to assist with the trace of COVID-19 infected individuals and the people they have interacted with during their contagious period.
This app places Smart Ostrich at the forefront of disease spread management, creating a trace model mobile application, that tracks a COVID-19 individual via a unique GPS to Digital Ledger algorithm, using the mobile device unique IMEI number to enable direct active movement tracking and co-location, This allows us to easily connect other users to times and locations where a possible infection may have occurred, inform these users to self-isolate and arrange testing, hence speeding the time to flatten the infection curve and prevent additional new infections.

Disease Monitoring Requirement
In the current pandemic climate of the COVID-19 disease spreading, there is an express and urgent need for extrapolating a civilians’ historical GPS movement should they be confirmed a COVID-19 positive disease carrier (C19)
This movement data of a C19 is critical when overlaid with the general population movement data of uninfected civilians (UCs) that may have been in contact with, or in very close proximity to the C19.
What the fight against Covid 19 needs
- The fight against COVID-19 requires a platform that allows healthcare to act preventatively whereby we can, via bulk SMS notification, inform all UCs simultaneously that they were in close proximity to a C19 and that they must self-isolate while retaining privacy compliance.
- Healthcare needs the ability to create Prohibition Movement Rules on C19’s by way of Monitored Geo-fences where C19 movement can be tracked (cell phone movement) and alerted on if violated.
- Healthcare needs to actively and in real time, monitor C19s and their UCs whereby afterwards results showing infected UCs can be recorded as LOCAL transfer identities.
How to know we are beating Covid 19?
- The moment we start providing statistical live insights into the The moment we start providing statistical live insights into the spreading patterns of the disease and providing geographical movement data of C19s, UCs and infected UCs we will know we are making strong progress. When we can create live maps of South Africa where we can record visually C19 spread and uncover information into areas of high risk, possible mode of transfer, and areas to avoid we will have information to benefit the population and get ahead of the virus spread.
- This real visible data will give us feedback on the effectiveness of measures to stop the spread we have implemented and allow scenario evaluation data on possible factors that are contributing to the spread.
- We need to have relevant data to pre-emptively act on quarantine of civilians and preventatively act on combatting the spread by having autonomous notification of individuals movements if they are COVID-19 positive.

HOW SECURE IS DATA ON ViCi?
ViCi’s Cloud GPS ledger is a distributed data ledger comprising of device data separate from the analytics algorithms, both maintained in a decentralized form across various locations, mimicking the Blockchain principles of data exchange.
- It allows our data to be effectively sent between UI/UX interfaces in the form of peer-to-peer transfers without relying on any centralized authority to broker the data transfer. ViCi’s Movement GPS phone data in location A is assigned by UID – at location B these UID’s are assigned to mobile numbers of SA citizens and in location C – Mobile Numbers are assigned to Name, Surnames, Date of Birth & Gender. Locations are on several nodes for resilient data replication adherence.
- ViCi 3 locations are managed as our distributed ledger services with the below architecture to insure our populous movement data complies with the most stringent security measures dictated by Blockchain

Conclusion – Take home
ViCi is able to assist with the fight against COVID-19, it is highly secure and enables us to:
- track the spread of the disease, inform people who could potentially be infected if they have been in close proximity to an infected person during the period of contagion
- allow the general public to avoid areas where high infection rates of people are currently moving
- and allow us to track isolation compliance for infected persons, with real-time alerting should an infected person leave their area of isolation.
Specific to the COVID-19 pandemic the limiting factor to making INFORMED decisions, is always the availability of quantifiable evidence to base these decisions on. For the prevention of COVID-19 spread, it holds true that if you cannot measure it you cannot manage it!
ViCi generates movement data that – with its algorithm “GeoList” – is making big advances in the fight against COVID-19 to affect immediate changes that directly benefit the populous of South Africa, stopping the spread and keeping the nation safe.
Commitment Covid 19
Smart Ostrich’ commitment to providing a novel solution that will allow you to reach your target audience with a voluntary targeted mobile application places us far ahead in the fight against COVID-19.
We’re here to help with all your advanced mobile app needs as we tackle this pandemic head on. We use world 1st analytics to provide COVID-19 movement data that allows us to keep SA safe.
WHY IS ViCi BETTER THAN OTHER APPS?
ViCi uses onboard mobile GPS data from mobile-satellites interface in comparison to other applications that use Cell Tower Triangulation services. These cell tower triangulation is called LBS and is accurate only up to 150m at best in built up areas. In remote areas such rural neighbourhoods where cell tower density is less, accuracy can be as low as 1km+. This is simply NOT sufficient for contact tracing of individuals carrying COVID-19 contagion.
Making a difference
Given the requirement is to do TRUE CONTACT TRACING, with the aim to place COVID-19 infected individuals in close proximity i.e. <15m to other general South Africa population individuals, the accuracy of 10m of the GPS system on ViCI allows us to create an area of 10m to identify individual that have ViCi installed on their mobile phones and that have shared that same space with the infected person.
WHO NEEDS ViCi?
The fight against Covid 19 necessitates as many South Africans as possible to have ViCi installed on their phones to reap the benefits of movement analytics provided and to help prevent the spread of the virus and flatten the curve.
